Another Gamer Limit Blog

Hello Gamer Limit!

I stumbled across this little website during the Christmas break while I was bored at work. I was in the process of organising some sort of chair race since all the managers were away, but I gave up when I realised it was more effort than it was worth.

On one of the forum posts welcoming a new member one of the replies was: “Don’t forget to start a blog here.” Being the rampant narcissist that I am, and urged on by a post directed to someone else, I was well on my way to spend any time I wasn’t pointlessly surfing the net at work to draft my first post on Gamer Limit in my head.

A little bit about myself – I’m 24, a girl, from Australia and work in the tallest building in my city. I get paid a stupidly high wage to do very little and secretly wish to get fired so that I could do something more worthwhile. I don’t, however, actively try to get fired, because it’s the only way I might be able to afford one of the ridiculously expensive inner city apartments which don’t have one of those stupid beds you pull out from the wall. I also like to suit up sometimes. To anyone who would like to guess my employer, the CEO is an American who looks and sounds exactly like the evil preacher from Carnivale.

As far as gaming is concerned, at the moment I’m almost exclusively PC (for various reasons, though I do own a PS2), but will consider getting a PS3 in the future, for wait for it… possibly Final Fantasy XIII. I’m a fan of mainly RPG, RTS and racing genres. I’ve tried to get into some FPS’s but none of them have managed to really hold my attention. Gaming history goes back to the old PC days of Alley Cat, Commander Keen, Wing Commander, Star Control, old school Sierra, and a whole bunch of other stuff which I remember the visuals but not the titles of. What I’ve played the most of over the last year would have to be Fallout 3, I quite liked C&C Red Alert 3 for Tim Curry alone, and Empire Total War. At the moment I’m wasting too much time with Dragon Age: Origins. I also always cheat, partly due to my short attention span as I’m almost never just gaming – it’s gaming and reading, gaming and watching TV…

I should really be more thankful for what I have, but I’m not. I think of all the things I could be doing right now if I had tried just a little bit harder rather than not at all. Oh, the shame, the shame of it all…

So without further adieu… the 10 things I should be doing other than gaming:

  1. Learning a new language.
  2. Writing a novel.
  3. Doing some sort of exercise.
  4. Investing in the stock market.
  5. Playing my guitar.
  6. Getting into bar fights.
  7. Starting an organised crime ring.
  8. Joining the Ultimate Fighting League.
  9. Improving my perfect pork crackling recipe.
  10. Watching more HBO.

Uh… obviously I ran out of ideas halfway through and just wrote the first things that came to mind. I also seem to have anger management issues.

    The list did start out as interesting, then made me rapidly frightened of you, then it got to sounding like you wanted to watch Sex and the City (the only thing I know is on HBO).

    Welcome to Gamer Limit. Glad to see you stumbled upon our site and decided to post a blog. I just have one question for ya. What the heck in “pork crackling”?

    Welcome, and thanks for writing a well-crafted introduction!

    You score extra points from me for mentioning Star Control — SC 1 & 2 are some of my favorite games of all time! Sierra too, I don’t know how many times I replayed the Quest for Glory games.

    Yeah, I wanted to join the Ultimate Fighting League too, but then I realized getting my face bashed in wasn’t a good route for my boyish good looks, so I turned to video games.

    Welcome to Gamer Limit. I look forward to reading more posts from you.

    Great to have your blog around the site!

    And if you’re serious about that organized crime ring, I’ll be your muscle.

    Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

    @Shawn
    Just trying to get the skin part of the pork all crisp and the bottom tender. It’s harder than it seems. I managed to finally make a really good one over Christmas by adjusting the oven temperature to something a bit different to what I normally do. It was practically falling off the bone and the top was all crispy and fatty and gooey which made me sick and happy all at the same time. Trying again this weekend.

    @Jamie
    Firstly Mandarin. I’m actually sort of Chinese, though I seem to know no Chinese. When someone walks up to you and expects you to understand and it happens a lot it gets tiring. I don’t seem to have a head for languages. I took up Mandarin in primary school and I think I did a short college course which I should have the certificate for somewhere and yet still have no vocab above “How are you?” I also did Japanese for five years at school and also know no Japanese. I’ve always blamed uni for killing my memory (don’t know how that works). I do however know a smattering of Cantonese from growing up on a diet of Hong Kong action movies sent over from my aunt (which may be where my violent streak comes from). When I’m drunk I think I understand German and sometimes I watch Inspector Rex if that counts…

    @Chris
    I can always use more muscle…

    Another Aussie! Welcome aboard. It’s frightening how similar your work life sounds to mine. I just spent about 5 minutes Googling “Clancy Brown Australia CEO”, but came up with nothing.

    Looking forward to more posts, if your procrastination doesn’t defeat them.

    So who was it that discovered this site on Stumbleupon? and welcome. This site worked it’s way to being my favourite source for gaming news over Gamepro and IGN.
